Reviewed Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream (For Electric Ice Cream Machine)

"Absolutely devine! I had some frozen cream cheese in the freezer, fresh strawberries...all I had to buy was the half and half. I leave my ice cream canister in the freezer during the summer months for easy convenience! I served this with my recipe Fresh Strawberry Marmalade (223183) Kudos on posting a great find!"

"I normally don;t rate a recipe when I have made changes, but I will with this one! My DH raved abut this dish!! I make a habit of trying new recipes that will use up what I have in stock. I used a wide egg noodle...had only crushed tomatoes on hand.....used dried basil...added some mushrooms ...had some fresh whipping cream that had been w..."

    Shared Recipe Shrimp Vodka Pasta

"Easy, peasy recipe I got from Cooking Light. It had got a lot of positive reviews, plus I had all the ingredients on hand, so I thought to try it! DH really (really) enjoyed this dish. I loved this particular dish because it used up a lot of "its and bits" I had floating around. I made it with pre-made marinara sauce... had the shrimp in the fre..."

Reviewed Indoor Pulled Pork With South Carolina Mustard Barbecue Sauce

"Wonderful recipe! I found a copy of the recipe in Cooks Illustrated magazine, but instead of the South Carolina Mustard BBQ sauce, I used the Lexington Vinegar BBQ sauce, so I will base my review on the meat alone. The meat turned out quite moist and very flavourful with the seasoning added. This recipe will definitely be used again! Thanks for..."

    About Me

Welcome to my world...where life is good!!

Update:   December 2012:   Wow!  Did this year ever go fast!  My family has been very blessed!  We added two new members to our family.  My youngest DD gave birth to my little grandson Cohen and 3 weeks later my other DD walked down the isle to marry the love of her life in Palm Springs.  After the wedding, my SIL, DH and I travelled from Palm Springs to Santa Monica, then up to Carmel, the Napa Valley then finished off in San Francisco.  What a lovely trip!!!  When I am not travelling, babysitting or just running around town.... I have been working for the Salvation Army kitchens now for 2 years now and enjoy what I love doing best!  Cooking!!
      - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    But... about me:
I originated from Montreal, Quebec and have lived in British Columbia, for the past 33 years...in the beautiful Fraser Valley. We live exactly 3 miles from the Canadian/US border and are very fortunate to be surounded by mountains and have Mount Baker (WA) as our focal point! I have two grown girls, who are quite particular in their likes and dislikes when it comes to food...and a son-in-law who is very easy to cook for.  My dear, dear man of 33 years will eat anything that I put in front of him...and knows well enough to give his review after each meal.

I simply love cooking! It relaxes me...energizes me...gets my creative juices "just a mixing"! When I have company coming for any length of time, I literally give myself insomia, creating menus for them....I remember likes/dislikes that my friends have in regards to foods.  I am a recipe junkie!   I have collected thousands off the 'net alone!  I have a modest collection of cookbooks that I am (still!!) in the process of weining out and I would love to say I still collect books, but with the 'net being so readily available I haven't bought one in a while. But...when I do look at a new cookbook, it has to have at least 4 or 5 recipes in it that I want to try before I will buy it! Alot of those recipes that had intrigued me to buy that book are now sitting in my Private Files, just waiting until I get around to finally make them. I have got alot of cooking to do to even make a dent (loll)!!!

Am I addited to Zaar? Yup...in a big way!!! I love reading where people are from.... Australia, Europe, somewhere USA or, especially, from my home country and practically in my living in my backyard. I enjoy reading about their life, loves and hates. I love the sense of humor in some people ...they really crack me up!!! When reviewing a recipe, I like to know everything about the recipe, so I that's how I like to respond in a review. How I cooked the recipe to what I served it with. Was there any complications, etc. I figure that if someone is going to take the time and effort to write a recipe, it is only be fair that I should take the time to give a decent review.

As much as I love all different types of foods...food does not necessarily love me!   Some years ago, I was diagnoised with IBS but refused... (stupidly!!) to acknowledge it.  I suffered from gut pain constantly until this year where I finally decided that I hurt enough to change my ways of life.  My DH calls me "delicate".  The hardest change was taking caffine, dairy and red meat out of my diet.  There are some foods that are on the strict "no-no" list and there are some that I can have in small qualities.   I just don't tolerate any fried foods, heavy sauces, rich foods, or anything with any degree of heat (I get severe hickups).  So you will find that my cooking leans towards the low fat... just because it is simple cooking at its' best. I am big on veggies, salads, fruit, and beans. But that is not to say that I don't occasionally treat myself to a couple bits of dessert when we go out!!

I have very sensitive skin and I find that I do not handle commercial products very well, especially soap. (See...delicate!!) So about 14 years ago, I took some classes in making soaps and bath products and got hooked (in a big way) ending up with a cottage business and selling my product locally.  As I am a true "bathaholic", I am always making up recipes for the bath! I get chills just thinking of scent combinations using pure essential oils!!!  I have got numerous compliments from my signature body scent that I keep tinkering around with!!  So, if I am not cooking in the kitchen....I am mixing ingredients for bath products!!! (I can't seem to ever get out of the kitchen!!!)

So that is me! I am so glad that you came in for a visit. Drop by again as I as always updating my page!!

    Happy cooking!
    Abby

    Favorite Foods

I love making bisucits/buns and usually serve them when company come over. If I have out of town guests coming for any length of time, I get my sourdough starter going and out comes the buns and pancakes. We eat loads of veggies, salads, beans and I am still trying to incorporate more fish into the diet. Living on the West Coast, we get an abundance of freshly caught salmon and oysters, so we can be very spoilt at times

We also live in a valley that is huge in the production of fresh berries...raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and cranberries...and, we are fortunate that most of our friends are in the berry business. I can't get enough of fresh strawberries and blueberries, and I have "died and gone to heaven" when our local corn comes out.

One pet peeve I have is when it comes to rating recipes! I know I am guilty of changing recipes, but I do it out of necessity.....but, in fairness, I change things like oil which would not have a huge impact on the recipe. I have a hard time with people who rate recipes, but have not used the proper ingredients. When I try a recipe, I try to keep to the recipe as much as possible. If the recipes says "chili paste" I use that, and not substitute it for something like chili sauce. Why would you even want to rate a recipe that you have basically re-written!! Most people have got to know their own personal likes and dislikes...and if you don't like anchovies, chilies, hot sauces, etc. why would you want to try the recipe in the first place??!!!

This is now I would rate any recipe I have tried:
5 star: This recipe rocked my world!!! Memorable!!! Restaurant quality...if not better!! Top drawer!!! Mouth watering!!! Friends are wanting the recipe!!! I have to admit, I am very stingy when I give these out. So, they have to be outstanding!!! I have dreams about these recipes !!!

4 star: These are still exceptional recipes...not much/or little changes made. Family loved it!

3 star: This is a recipe where I am sitting on the fence. Did I like it or not??!! ....average...food for family nights or to use up leftover ingredients....would not serve to company.

2 star: O.K....sometimes, I goof and I really, really should have known better! Why did I try this one (?)..possibly because it had got good ratings from elsewhere

1 star: Haven't come across any that would go straight to the garbage bin.
