    Reviewed Old-Time Beef Stew

"Delicious. I made a few changes as I wanted to do this in the crockpot today. Seared the beef this morning, deglazed the pan with a Tbsp of Worcestershire, placed in the crockpot with the onions, seasonings, and pan drippings, and 1 cup of water, plus an additional Tbsp of Worcestershire. I used a whole clove instead of ground cloves or allspice and omitted the paprika (we were out.) Cooked it in the crockpot on high for an hour, than switched it to low and added the veggies, and stirred in the cornstarch slurry half an hour before serving. Crockpots retain moisture really well, 1 cup was definitely plenty. I served it over garlic mashed potatoes. We wanted a simple, effortless, hearty, basic stew recipe and that's exactly what we got. So yummy.
