    Reviewed Decorator Buttercream Icing

"I was hesitant to use shortening in icing so cut it back to 1/4 cup shortening and 3/4 cup butter. The result was wonderfully smooth and light with not a hint of lard. Great tip to reduce sweetness too! Used just a dollop on top of mini cupcakes made from Marg's Dark Chocolate Cake recipe. Perfect bite sized treats :)"

    Reviewed Dark Chocolate Cake

"Excellent recipe as the numerous ratings show. I added a pinch of ground red pepper and used 2/3 of a cup of hot coffee instead of water. I baked them in tiny silicone muffin cups topping them with a dollop of Decorator Buttercream Icing. They took only 15 minutes to bake and were a wonderful bite sized treat!"

"For those that love main dish salads, this full flavoured dish adapted from the 2011 Fine Cooking - Cooking Fresh magazine, is sure to please. Serve with a crusty baquette. The original recipe called for added brown sugar & honey so if you prefer a bit of sweet with your savory flavours, just add the optional fresh corn. It adds a great texture ..."

    About Me

I live in a very pretty valley in a medium sized town in the middle of BC. We have a fairly diverse cultural base so the markets carry an interesting variety of spices etc. Not like a larger center however.

One of the great things about Zaar is the fabulous photo's with many of the recipes. After all, what's a cookbook without pictures?! Thanks to the generous tips and suggestions from many of the talented chefs here, I now enjoy taking my own foodographs to go along with reviews.

    Favorite Foods

We love spicier foods filled with flavour. Love Greek and cajun. After a trip to Mexico discovered cumin and fresh cilantro.

Being a bit of a creative type, I like to make a project of a meal. Cooking & presentation is an art form of sorts.

I prefer recipes that don't assume anything and are well organized and complete. Also really like it when recipes have suggestions as to what to serve with the meal.

Thanks to the great chef's & recipes on Zaar, I can no longer say, "I can't bake"!

I wish there was a 4.5 star rating.....
