As you have gathered by now, my name is Maria. (Among other things) I am a certified chef and caterer (although I don't practise catering) and I live on Zakynthos Island, Greece. Where is Zakynthos Island? Look to the western coast lines of Greece and you will see a row of islands going down. These are the 7 Ionian Islands - or the I?nia Ept?nissa. At the top is Corfu and at the very bottom is Zakynthos, Zante the Fi?ro Di Lev?nte as the Venetians called it. The Flower of The East.
What are my passions? Aside from my family (hubby and my 2 veeeeeery lively girls) my passion is, without a doubt, cooking. My favourite cookbooks? Well, I have so many but one of my favourites is The Hamlin Colour Cookbook and, without wanting to blow my own horn, the series of cookbooks I have authored - a lot of effort and heart has gone into them. The 1st has already been published and the 2nd is about to be added to my website (both are Greek and Mediterranean cuisine). The 3rd should be coming out next month (this one goes across the board and borders of the world).
Favourite foods? Although my speciality is Mediterranean food, the world is an enormous table absolutely covered with things to savour and enjoy. There is no way I could possibly narrow it down... I enjoy everything and will try anything once (as long as it's not tripe, brains and the such... they're about the only things I cannot try to save my life...). I am fortunate to have friends throughout the world, Florida, North Carolina, England, Scotland, Australia and Italy... and I usually get the same requests whenever friends come to stay in Zakynthos (which fortunately is quite often): Moussaka, Baklava, fluffy Bavarian pancakes topped with fruit and whipped cream, and my brainchild - Chocolate B?ba Cake (you have to try it to believe it!). Wouldn't it be wonderful if the whole world could sit down at one enormous table and we could 'break bread' as one?
God bless, Maria
