I live in Lexington KY. My all-time favorite cookbook is one given to me by my mom: The Settlement Cookbook, edited by Mrs. Simon Kander. I have two copies, the one my mom gave me (not hers, but a copy she found at a tag sale, totally falling apart, copyright 1941) and another in mint condition I bought at a used book store. My second favorite a first edition (1930) Betty Crocker picture cookbook. I own hundreds of cookbook, and love them all!
My favorite dish to cook is soup---any kind of soup. Favorites are beef vegetable with a tangy, sweet/sour tomato base and matzo ball soup. The dish I seem to be famous for, although I don't consider myself much of a baker, are my brownies (secret family recipe). My favorite restaurant doesn't exist anymore: Hausner's in Baltimore, MD. Great German cooking, a loss that it closed. Both my grandmothers, my mother and my sisters and brother are fantastic cooks! I enjoy cooking for health and to please the palate, and like to adapt favorite recipes to 'lighter' versions.
