    About Me

    I grew up in rural east Texas and Louisiana before being transplanted to the beautiful state of Kentucky at the age of 17....so for the most part, my 'hard drive' is programmed for rich, southern style food. Recipes for things like mashed potatoes, cream gravy, pot roast, chicken fried steak and chili are burned in to my DNA!!  I will never deny my love for rich, southern foods and I'm not a fan of stripping away all the fat and flavor in order to lighten up my favorite southern staples, however (fortunately) my culinary horizons expand beyond my roots and I love finding new foods and new ways of cooking that are just as delicious and in many cases much healthier.  I do receive an incredible amount of joy from feeding others....a trait I definately attribute to my southern roots.

    I first joined Food.com in 2008 - back when it was Recipe Zaar.  For several years I was fairly active with the site and community - participating in cooking games and even the Zaar World Tour.  I do miss the smallness of the old Zaar community (it was easy to feel that you knew the other members!) and I'm not quite as active now, but Food.com remains my first stop when I'm looking for a cooking resource or a new recipe.

    Favorite Foods

    I love good food, no matter what the style or particular ingredients.....but as a general rule, my most favorite foods are full of fire......Tex-Mex, Thai, anything with lots of flavor and plenty of heat. 

    More and more I find that friends and family are adopting vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets and although I do not adhere to any hard and fast restrictions, I find that I have learned a lot by exploring cooking in those ways and I enjoy incorporating more fruits, vegetables, and wheat alternatives into my family's diet and allowing plant based foods to take center stage more and more frequently.  I've also found that the way I shop for food is changing - buying non-gmo, organic, sustainable, local/seasonal foods whenever possible.
