Boca Raton, FL
After moving to Florida, I worked at a Kosher (cholov israel dairy) resturant in Boca Raton. Eventually I moved to a different restuarant specializing in lobsters and meat where I am a pastry chef and work garde manager.
When I was a kid I was absolutely banned from the kitchen at my own home, so learned to cook at my friend's home. Her family was Italian so one of my first lessons was making cannolis. Since then, I've been lucky to work in fabulous resturants in Minneapolis and Boca Raton and even be a personal chef in London.
Food is a great thing for people to come together over. Some of my best memories include my grandmother who always was making fun cheeseballs and smokies for her cocktail parties and was sharing goods with friends from garden fresh gazpacho to garden fresh zucchini bread. I love to help create such memories and bring huge smiles to people who bite into a fantastic, pretty cupcake or grilled walleye. Bringing individual pieces of food into one creation involves all the senses; scent, sight, touch, taste, hearing. It's an engaging process that I love.
In my free time I volunteer in theatre, play with my mastif/boxer Lady Jane, write, draw, and paint, and make indie films with my boyfriend.
My favourite dishes to make are sweets. I love the Hummingbird Cafe in England, D'Amicos in Minneapolis, MN, and the Zesto in Pierre, SD. I haven't found a favourite yet in Florida, but there are certainly fantastic places I'm still trying out!
