Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition!”
I am from and live in Austria and have discovered a very early affinity towards cooking and baking (sand cakes!). I started my very own food experiments when I was about 10 and am still very thankful to my parents, who, absolutely encouraging, supportive and pardoning, let me mess up the kitchen, tended to my occasional cooking-related injuries and even, courageously enough, tried my sometimes rather problematic creations.
I really started cooking when I turned vegetarian 17 years ago and had and wanted to come up with delicious, nutritious and diverse meals/dishes from all over the planet. During my university years I added the aspect quick as well. Nowadays I enjoy experimenting with new kinds of ingredients, sometimes cook very lavishly for family and friends (it's always quite nice to see, when omni- or carnivores discover, that vegetarian or vegan cuisine can be quite appealing and absolutely tasty) and still enjoy the preparation of quick, simple and tasty food. I am lucky enough to live in the vicinity of a local market, where I can buy high quality produce from around my historic hometown of Graz (www.graz.at). I enjoy and like a lot of different cuisines, the spicier/hotter the better and am very lucky to really like all that healthy vegetarian and vegan stuff such as tofu, tempeh, whole grain, etc... There is little I don't like, as I'm not very picky, but I absolutely can't have and hence detest liquorice (it's mean ;)) and am not too keen on very fat, deep-fried or breaded food.
Apart from cooking, which I see as a kind of relaxation and creativity pool, I enjoy literature and cinema (even with subtitles ;)), music, travelling (amongst others New York City's that place where...), being together with lovely people, humour, cats, nature, history, philosophy and sociology, Kaffeehauskultur (coffee house culture), hiking and biking and have, very recently, discovered that knitting and crocheting have more to them than the usually rather dark childhood memories.
Vegetarian and vegan around the World. Very hot and spicy foods.
