Reviewed Grandma Rampke's Easy Rhubarb Custard Pie

"Fresh rhubarb is VERY scarce in Orange County, at least in Orange, so when I actually had THREE stalks left over after making a different pie, I went in search..I love rhubarb, and I LOVE CUSTARD. Turns out 3 stalks was EXACTLY the amount I needed chopped for the pie! I used a frozen whole wheat crust I had in the freezer, added a bit of vanilla a..."

    About Me

My passion is cooking, but I am a tax auditor by trade, so I travel a LOT. I miss the great seafood of the PNW, but I make do with gifts from friends and a SUITCASE full every trip back to the OC. God Bless Owen's Meats in Cle Elum, they keep us supplied with 'home food'.

I am outdoorsy, I love to camp at Grayland, Mt Whitney, Lake Tahoe, Flathead Lake. I have bicycled the San Juans and the Oregon Coast with my boys when they were young. Once upon a time, I was Control Room Supervisor at Snoqualmie Ski Area.

We used to pick mussels from the Westhaven jetty at Westport, and either cook them on the beach on the coleman stove or take them home to our farmlet in Tenino.

My pet peeve is litter in So Cali. I can't stand it. And I HATE how they drive a block to the grocery! However, as long as I am sentenced to So Cali, I ADORE the City of ORANGE, and Orange County is just the best place for me!

    Favorite Foods

I love adopting an ethnic 'style' and creating my own food from it. I was raised with meat and potatoes, but BOY I love grilled salmon! I am great with MY interpretation of enchiladas. Slow cookers are great but I never remember to set it up early before work.

No matter where we have lived, I grill year round. All it takes is an overhang or an umbrella. Being from Seattleish, I know bumbershoots!

My favorite 'restaurant' is pretty plebian, we are addicted to Watson's Drug in the City of Orange. We also have fantastic Italian, Cuban, Mexican and you name it around the Orange Circle, so when we have a day off at the same time, we like to share them at a great restaurant.

When I am in Seattle, it is Ivar's, followed by Salty's and then the Crab Pot, bar none. Over the Pass, it is the Sunset Cafe in Cle Elum...wonderful food, great people.
