Shared Recipe Strawberry Banana Ice Cream
"This is an adaptation of an original David Lebovitz recipe. I didn't have enough strawberries, plus I didn't want the sugar count. The secret ingredient here is sour cream. Here in Costa Rica we use natilla instead of sour cream. It's so much different and SO much better! LOL... In the US, I would use Mexican Crema - it will have the same con..."

A note about my rating system. You might notice that I give a lot of fives, a few fours, and little less than that. Usually, I can tell just from the ingredients and the prep method whether or not I'll like it - and I only choose recipes I think I'll like! So I'm rarely disappointed. It's not a matter of "was it good?", it's a matter of "How Good?"
Now for the details!
I'm originally from San Diego, California but now retired and living the "tranquilo" life in Dominical, Costa Rica!
I've always loved to cook for family and friends. Back in the States, had a cookbook collection to rival any library, but sadly had to leave them behind when we moved here. The good news is, I found Food.com and it's even better than having all my cookbooks!
Most of the time, I look at recipes just to get ideas and then go with it from memory or what's in the pantry. Hubby is a great cook, too - and we make a wide variety of foods. We especially love italian, greek, and mexican cuisines.
Here in Costa Rica, it's difficult to find many of the foods we're accustomed to. So I've learned to make many of the basics we used to take for granted, like ricotta cheese, hummus, tahini, teriyaki sauce, Rose's lime juice. Thanks, Food.com for making my search for recipes easier! On the plus side, seafood and veggies are cheap and abundant - the only thing I miss is my USDA Choice ribeye, lamb chops and wild salmon from Costco. Sob!
Sushi, veggies, seafood, Thai, Greek, Mexican, Indian, CHOCOLATE!!!

"Costa Rica is one of the original Banana Republics, which probably explains the many types of bananas growing on our property. And of course, they all ripen at the same time! This is ONE more way to use up those pesky bananas... I used Guaro as the alcohol because it's the cheapest clear liquor here, but you could probably substitute vodka, rum ..."
