I currently live in Naples, FL but I am originally from Pittsburgh and still consider that to be home. In my free time other than going to the beach I like to do yoga, go horseback riding, jog, read, and play soccer.
I began cooking during a blizzard in Colorado when I was in college. My flight home for Christmas was canceled and I was really down about missing out on spending the Holiday with my family as well as not getting any of the Christmas cookies they would be enjoying without me! Luckily there was a grocery store across the street I could walk to because all of the roads were closed. I stocked up on ingredients and after about 12 attempts I had my cookies! Since then all I can think about is what I am going to cook or bake next.
My favorite part about cooking is making food for company. In college (post blizzard) I started pasta Wednesday's where friends would come over for a dinner party and I would cook a different pasta every week. I supplied the food, my friends supplied the wine, and we had a blast. I have a passion for feeding people because I think that food makes people feel comfortable and cared about. When you serve someone a good meal or a homemade treat it makes them feel like you did something special just for them.
Recipezaar has been a great place for me to learn and most of the time I spend on the internet is on this website.I have been trying to expand my cooking horizons lately and try more ethnic dishes. My boyfriend isn't as adventuous an eater as I am so that has been a bit of a hurdle to overcome, but he is coming around to some things (Not blue cheese, goat cheese, or nuts to my dismay!). Also, I have been going through the recipes in my cookbooks more and adding the keepers to this site as I go.
I try to rate recipes in as much detail as possible, but sometimes there isn't a lot to say except that it was good! Also, I will give recipes ratings from 1-5 stars.I realize that this hurts some chefs feelings, but I like to give a true assessment so that is helpful to myself (in the future) and other chefs. It is nothing personal!!
My rating system is:
5 Stars: A-plus couldn't do anything to make it better and will be my staple recipe.
4 Stars: Really enjoyed and will probably make again but may try out another recipe instead.
3 Stars: Was pretty good but will make some changes if I make again.
2 Stars: Came out ok but didn't suit my tastes and probably won't make again.
1 Star: Recipe didn't work out for me as printed or really didn't taste good.
Cheese, wine, chocolate, pasta of any kind, popcorn, breakfast pastries (mainly croissants and scones!), buffalo chicken, macaroons, and I love coffee, tea, and hot chocolate!
