    About Me

I'm a 29-year-old single mom to a nine-year-old daughter. I'm an avid reader and enjoy all needlecrafts. I also collect antique pill boxes (not the hats). Thus, I try to stay away from e-bay or I end up spending WAY too much money on the things.

I've never been much of a cook, but I'm trying to remedy that. I had gastric bypass surgery three months ago (May of 2005), and am trying to make healthier food choices. (Or at least stop eating out of cans and boxes.)

As for pet peeves, they are many. I'll just relate the food ones here:

I abhor olives, mushrooms, bell peppers, celery, and onions; it's not so much a dislike of the flavors as it is a huge aversion to their textures. I just don't like crunchy veggies; I'm one of those weirdos who wants all her veggies cooked down to mush. :)

Another strong food-related dislike is fish and seafood. Blech! With the rare exception of canned albacore tuna packed in water, whatever the mystery fish is in Captain D's filets, and crab rangoon I won't touch the stuff. Shrimp always reminds me of big, fat grub worms.

In addition to all of this, I'm one of those freaks who WILL NOT eat bloody meat. It better be well-done or I'm not eating it.

Oh, and I detest cooked fruit of any kind, although I will eat a blueberry muffin or a piece of banana bread on occasion.

As for alcoholic beverages, I don't like beer. Gin tastes like rubbing alcohol, and peppermint schnapps tastes like mouth wash. Now, tequila, tequila is good stuff. And you could mix battery acid with sour mix and I'd drink it; I love whiskey sours, amaretto sours, and midori sours. Midori is yummy. I can't stand dry wines (red or white), but I do like sweet, fruity sparkling wines. Lambrusco and asti spumante are a couple of my favorites.

O'kay so I'm a picky eater (and drinker). I've never claimed to have refined "foodie" tastes. I'm fairly likeable in spite of this. . .really I am.

    Favorite Foods

I'm a sage fiend. Love the stuff. I also love tomatoes, potatos, avocados, artichokes, mushy asparagus, fresh fruits of all kinds, dark green leafy vegetables, breads, sour cream, and cheese. We also eat a lot of chicken and pasta.

I'm a huge fan of down-home southern (U.S.) cooking. I really enjoy most Mexican and Italian cuisine.

My daughter wants to be a vegetarian, so I'm always on the look-out for kid-friendly veggie dishes.
