Love to: Cook, bake, garden, collect teapots, and have numerous other hobbies. I am almost NEVER bored! There does not seem to be enough hours in the day to do all that I want to do! I also started taking Taoist Tai Chi along with DH. We are attending as many classes as we can, to help re-enforce what we learned.
I am a "Sabra", a native Israeli. I was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and grew up in Ramat Gan, then moved to NJ when I was in grade school. I lived in NJ most of my life, but also in PA and now in Florida.
I worked as a Registered Nurse and a Medical Transcriptionist, but am now retired.
I have four wonderful grown children: 2 sons and 2 daughters, and am also the proud grandmother of 4 beautiful granddaughters.
My husband and I recently moved to Florida, where I am busy with one of my passions: growing citrus and other Mediterranean-type trees....something I always dreamed of doing ever since I left Israel at the age of 9. We also have a summer home in the Pennsylvania Poconos....the best of both worlds, as they say.
I enjoy growing my own veggies, herbs and fruits.
I don't have a favorite cookbook, but I have thousands of recipes that I've amassed over the years. I will never get to try most of them, alas, because I won't live THAT long! And now that I have discovered Zaar, fugetaboutit! I used to spend most of my free time playing games on the computer, but now that Zaar has entered my life, that is all that I seem to be doing on the net!
Unfortunately, there aren't many things I don't like to eat! I just don't eat any pork products. I like to cook and eat healthy foods. I love to cook and eat all kinds of ethnic cuisines. I enjoy eating out, but also enjoy my own cooking. Am always looking for new and different recipes, and Zaar IS the place! I love to experiment with and cook new foods and use different ingredients. Sometimes, after eating a dish that I particularly enjoyed at a restaurant, I try to recreate it at home, often (but not always) with good success.
I have one "pet Peeve" when it comes to recipes. If someone is given a recipe, and it is not followed as stated, then does not come out well, they may think that you "held something back" or that it really wasn't as good as you indicated it is. This happened to me a couple of times. I finally said: "Tell me exactly what you did." They would then confess that they left something out, or substituted item/s that they didn't have in the house, etc. Well......I suggested that they try it once more, only this time follow it to the letter. Voila! It turned out just like I said it would or that they had remembered how it was when I made it. Duh....! I love to share recipes, and am more than happy to give mine out to anyone that asks.
The foods that I am "famous" for are Feiger's chicken, my House Dressing for tossed salad, Matzoh Ball soup, Passover stuffing, anise toast and pecan balls.
