Culinary school drop-out (happy cook)!
My name is Meg, as my public name might suggest. So far, I've been a cook my whole life, at home and in restaurants, and was raised in a restaurant/bakery as well. At the moment, I'm working in a bustling bakery in my small town. I recently married the man of my dreams, who I met in high school in a restaurant prep course. We both went to college for Culinary Arts/Chef Training, but neither found the program very satisfying. As it stands, we're both happiest cooking, so long as it's not in a kitchen lab.
I've been nosing around 'Zaar since I was about 13 or 14, and it's been a huge source of learning for me, back when I didn't even know what a roux was, haha. If you've seen me around before, I'm the former SugarMegnolia.
When I'm not cooking or baking, I'm an avid music fan (bluegrass, indie, folk), enormously so when it comes to John Prine. I play guitar, a bit of banjo and uke, and currently I'm learning fiddle.
I also love antiquing, one of my favourite past times with my dad - I have a ton of antique cookware, cookbooks (one from the 1840s!), along with occupied Japan knick-knacks, anything parrot-like, and any kind of antique cup. I'm a big tea/coffee drinker, I guess.
My favourite foods are... Etouffee, freshly baked bread, anything dealing with prosciutto or artichokes OR barbeque, pasta & cauliflower (old family dish), anything with fresh raspberries or strawberries, black eyed peas, lima and black beans, corn bread, fried shrimp/okra/green tomatoes, goat cheese, or... any dairy with high fat content, really.. haha. My last meal would definitely include a nice, tall glass of 18% cream.
I love cooking different ethnic foods, but my favourites are Southern(and Cajun), and Italian. Good, old-fashioned homestyle food (upscale or not) is the stuff of dreams.
I'm also working on getting Paula Deen to adopt me. If not, I'll take Ina Garten any day.
