    My Journal

I have no recent activity to share.

    About Me

    Musica laetitiae comes, medicina dolorum.

About me? Comfort food means mamaliga (polenta) with goat's cheese for me, I'm addicted to cherries, love oatmeal, have an obsession for the music of Angelo Branduardi and a mad love for Great Britain, and if nothing else, Terry Pratchett inevitably makes me laugh. Other than that, I'm perfectly normal.

After finding out that eating gluten free might be a good idea, I went searching the web for gluten free cooking and baking ideas in summer 2007. Not content with German gluten free sites, I had an epiphany and remembered that I can speak English, so feeding "gluten free bread" to the search engine tossed me right into the middle of Recipezaar, now food.com.
I was born and raised in the Black Forest (Germany) by a Romanian dad and a northern German mother. My mom had spent several years in Italy and felt more Italian than German, and the few things she cooked mostly were Italian. Usually it was my dad who cooked, and he made either south-eastern dishes or mediterranean. So meeting my DH first I had no clue about German cooking.

For the past decade I've been transplanted to the north-west of Germany close to the Dutch border and have a very German MIL, so I learned some typical German dishes which I liked and which I did or will post.

The broad variety and creativity of cuisines provided here on food.com is what I was looking for. Using this site made me far more creative myself - thanks to all you wonderful guys round here for all your ideas and all your kindness and support!

Although I got sick by eating most of my life, I always loved to cook and bake. Living gluten free has opend up a whole new dimension of eating for me, and since I can eat without getting sick, I started to love eating, too!

I have the joy to co-host the Diabetic Cooking Forum with Paula G and Andi of Longmeadow Farm, and the German/Benelux Forum with Koechin and Lalaloula.

Also I'm hosting the Healthy Choices ABC Tag Game in Cooking Games With Friends

    Favorite Foods

Mostly Mediterranean and North African / Middle Eastern food, also I love Indian and Korean food. Despite all German prejudices I love British cooking, too!!!
As gluten, cow's milk and soy don't seem to like me, my choice of foods is a bit limited. Besides that, I don't like really sweet things, which means that I will cut down sweeteners in cookies, cakes or desserts to about 1/4 of the original amount. So my ratings either display the judge of my guinea pigs if I don't make changes, or if I adjust recipes to my requirements, I will describe what I have changed and how it turned out. If it doesn't turn out well with substitutes or changes, of course I won't rate the recipe!

I don't think I'm famous for anything, and I don't have a favourite dish to cook, except for maybe mamaliga recipe #410840 and salata de vinete recipe #317574

My favourite restaurant is the Karawane in Essen and Dinslaken (Ruhr).
