New Topic gingerbread damage control in Cooking Q & A

"Made a slew of gingerbread dough with a batch Chinese kids and am trying to fill gingerbread house molds with them. Some of the dough is powdery, and I suspected that the batch didn't have enough shortening. Added some shortening, molasses, and a little water to get the dough smooth, using a Kitchenaid. Dough came out looking all right, but taste ..."

    Reviewed Homemade Chili Powder

"I found smoked paprika in our local supermarket's bulk section. I used this chili powder for this recipe from Taste of Home: http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Rainbow-Vegetable-Skillet

The recipe worked really well. I had a Hubbard squash the size of a basketball, and the recipe tasted really good. I have noted the observation about..."

New Topic need to review methods for using silicone gingerbread mold in Cooking Q & A

"I didn't use my Silicone gingerbread mold last year, and now I can't find the directions. So it's been two years since I made a gingerbread house. I have checked several sites, including the molds' manufacturer and about.com, and I'm getting more confused.

If you have used your silicone gingerbread mold recently, or if you have the directions, ..."

    About Me

We have five kids, almost all grown and all interested in one aspect of cooking or another. Eldest Son is the Soup king; Eldest and Middle Daughters just learned how to make chocolate truffles; Youngest Daughter is investigating a career in food service, and Youngest Son has joined me in learning how to make pickles and jam. Mr. JB is the pancake expert, and he looks up recipes on the Cooking for Engineers site.

I have appreciated using this site as I learn to adapt my cooking to make it healthier.

I'm a 4H leader who works with the little kids, the "Clover Buds". I love kindergarten science, and all cooking is science. And it's the most flavorful science, too.

    Favorite Foods

    Many.

Youngest Son's dill beans, Grandma Lee's meatball soup, my mother-in-law's pecan pie, Mr. JB's pancakes with peaches and ham on the side, and whatever I'm going to learn to make next week.
