I am a grandma living in a little country house in New Hampshire. I have lived all over the U.S. and more. I typically cook from scratch, including grinding whole bulk spices as I use them. I miraculously survived ovarian cancer 27 yrs ago but now need a kidney transplant due to chemo damage. I cannot get dialysis because my veins were ruined by the chemo. Meantime, I am newly "retired" on disability while I wait for a kidney donor to come into my life. I love having the time to cook now that I no longer work. I newly live next door to my daughter and her family so now have people to cook for. My kitchen windows look out on the beautiful forest and I typically have jazz streaming on my laptop while I cook.
I love recipes from all over the world, gourmet, ethnic, comfort, you name it. I love spicy and complex flavors. I can cook most anything and am really good at cooking authentic tasting mexican food. I make my own mole and am not afraid to experiment. I love shopping at ethnic grocery stores to buy hard to find ingredients so I can make really authentic foreign recipes. Recipezaar has been my "go to" recipe site for years, but I never reviewed or communicated. Thanks to many of you, I have made some fantastic dishes! I will try to share some of my own in the future. Some of my recent hits are forbidden rice salad, mango shrimp glass noodle salad, tom ka gai, spring rolls, tomatillo pork stew, chicken mole, pork tamales, carrot cake (the best I ever had came from a recipe posted here by one of you), 5 spice chicken, thai green curry.
