Ummm... Been a long time since I visited this site... IN fact it was still RecipeZaar (big shout out to all the Founding Members!!).
I moved to Mallorca a couple of years ago and have been living here since. We are now planning to move to Costa Rica in the next few years, as the situation in Europe and Spain is becoming more and more impossible. We both have stable work but getting anything done or trying to innovate just slightly is unnervingly impossible (from the burocratic point of view).
We currently run a 5 room guest house and also out rent a house in a small village, we both love cooking and when we move the plan is to set something simmilar up in Costa Rica... Teach people how to make bread and Paella and cook and be happy, basically!!!
And then I have been teaching English for the past 7 years here in Mallorca, so I can continue doing that anywhere in the world.
(Written in 2000) Yorkshire puddings (and I do mean plural...I make them in individual little dishes, ramekins or in a tart mold, like you use for mince pies), crunchy roast potatoes, steamed cabbage and a good thick gravy does nicely though.
But this is mainly for cold winter nights or special coccasions.
I generally end up eating pasta, rice, cous-cous or potatoes... I'm generally a Vegetarian, but I will try anything twice.
(2012 update): Ok, well, I don't eat meat (again), though I did for a good many years, just now (two years ago) got tired of not knowing where my food was coming from and why my chicken breast shrank by almost 1/3 when it went in the pan, so have now given up meat again and am back to semi-veggie living... Still eat fish and seafood, as we have a great supply here in Mallorca.
Favourite foods are now very simple... Bread and cheese, paella, chick-peas with raw shredded veg-salad, "coca" (which is a Mallorcan pizza with no cheese).
