For reasons unknown, I have terrible inflammatory/IBS reaction to the common food additive Carrageenan, as well as milder reactions to nitrates and Annatto (completely natural, yet I can tolerate chemical food dye, weird). I also can't tolerate something in commercial broth/bouillon. The 5 or so years it took me to narrow down my triggers, I also can't eat large meals, or the same meals twice in a row - even if they're 100% whole food.
DH grew up on in a farm town, where they grew most of their vegetables and fruit, his grandfather preserved most of their meat. DH and his siblings thought packaged food from stores was a lluxorious treat, which he indulged in many decades of being single. So you see what I'm up against
