After globetrotting for most of my university years - and believe me they were many, I have settled down with my very own Cool Nebraska Guy in the Iowa countryside in the midst of some extensive cornfields. We bought a fixer-upper with some acreage and are currently in the process of making it our own. One of the perks is that our kitchen is HUGE and our backyard is huge too so I am in the process of transitioning from buying my veggies at the supermarket to growing them organically for our own consumption. Never in a million years did I think that my city girl self would live out in the middle of a cornfield!
I've traveled quite a bit and love just about anything. I love my own Puerto Rican cuisine which I see as my essence. I also like making Northern Italian dishes because of the two years I spent living there. Grilling is great fun since I learned to see it as something beyond just making food thanks to my sojourn in Australia. I love Thai and Southeast Asian cuisine and enjoy experimenting with it. I've embraced the variety of cultural influences the Midwest has to offer and I think I'm well on my way to mastering the seasonal and culturally influenced dishes that are such a staple in these parts.
