    About Me

Despite both of us already having full time jobs, my husband and I are venturing into small business. You can track our progress on our blog, listed as my website at the bottom of this page. Please leave comments, email us, zmail me, offer advice, etc. We are so very excited about this, and are moving forward slowly, funding this ourselves and have chosen not to pursue any sort of loan at this time.
We have 2 daughters, ages 5 and 7, and a little boy who is almost 1 year old.

    Favorite Foods

I like Mexican and Italian food. I like some Asian foods, but am unfamiliar with many of the specialty ingredients.

We love to grill out on our deck in the summer, and really enjoy experimenting with grilling fruits and desserts as well. We love grilled pineapple! Check out my recipe for grilled pineapple sundaes!  My husband would tell you that my meatloaf is my specialty.  He really enjoys it, but my girls hate it!  My little boy, like his daddy, loves meatloaf, whether it's mine or not.

I like seafood as well, though I'm not very adventurous in preparing it. I'd rather go out for good seafood than spend the money on expensive seafood and then ruin it.

I love coffee and scones. I love making scones, and my girls are fans of them as well. I'm also a fan of chai tea, though I'm trying to work out a good version that doesn't involve all the sugar that the premixed powders or concentrates have. I hate sugar substitutes, so it's a matter of having the patience to brew my own tea and figure out a good balance of not too much sugar and still tasty!

We garden and are really pushing the limits of our knowledge and available space to do so.  We have canned our own tomatoes and pickles for a few years now, and have also frozen locally picked strawberries and cherries, along with Michigan blueberries bought in bulk.  I have made strawberry and cherry freezer jam, and last year experimented with the 'no sugar needed' pectin.  I ended up adding some sugar to suit our tastes, but it's still a lot healthier than the original!

My girls take cold lunch to school most days, so the frozen berries combined with vanilla yogurt or even cottage cheese is a great addition to their lunches.

I like swaps, and have recently taken on the hosting duties of the ABC swap.  For swaps, I love to try new things, and particularly like to receive local and regional specialties or mixes for making things that are typical to my swap partner's area.  My girls have really gotten into the swaps as well and try to hijack things from my swap packages!
