Added Recipe Photo to Chili Queso Dip
I retired as an accountant in October 2007 and started an in-home daycare for infants and toddlers with the help of my daughter. My husband retired in May 2008 and joined us in the business. Everything was going extremely well until the Good Friday Tornado in Bridgeton MO wiped out our home and the daycare business. We are very thankful that no one was injured.
Now my husband and I are living back on the farm in Moberly MO. Our two kids and 4 grandkids are in the Saint Louis Metro Area, and we see them frequently. They enjoy visiting us and having more freedom to run and play in the country.
I just recently started a new job as an office manager for a garage door company in Moberly. Dan and I also "pick" books and sheet music at thrift shops and resell the items on Amazon. This has allowed me to amass a huge collection of cook books. I enjoy staying busy and having lots of projects. I've been crocheting a lot this winter; Dan will have another big garden with my brother and sister-in-law this spring. I'm also the family genealogist and official "scanner of photos."
Dan and I have been married 46 years. We both like to cook and have many recipes that have been given to us over the years by family members. We have huge quantities of "clipped" recipes, and I'm just tired of the disorganization.
I still have hundreds of recipes to compile add to the online cookbook. And I need to set a goal of doing at least 1 or 2 each day. Over a year's time that would be a significant number. And already we are finding they are so much easier to locate when we want to prepare a special dish.
This is a gift I can pass on to my children, grandchildren and other loved ones. Some of these recipes are treasures that simply need to live on for many generations to come.
I love hearing from my "fans" and reading your reviews. So far, no one has been too hard on me! :-)
Hello, my name is Tona and I'm a carboholic! If I had to choose a food and drink for my last meal it would be yeast rolls and Pepsi! How's that for simply disgusting?
I mentioned on the cookbook cover that my mother was a "rustic" cook. Those are my favorite meals: pot roasts; chicken & dumplings; stews; chowders; hearty soups; fried chicken with mashed potatoes and pan gravy; and ham & beans with cornbread.
My mother did not like cheese for some unbeknownst reason and never cooked with it. Believe it or not, I was in high school before I knew there were other kinds of cheese besides Velveeta! So I have become a cheese connoisseur -- you'll find lots of casseroles in my cookbook and most of them have cheese as an ingredient.
Favorite desserts are pies and cakes -- just about any kind, anywhere, anytime.
I grew up on a farm where we had an endless supply of beef, pork and chicken. My father had milk cows for a few years, so there was always fresh milk, cream, and homemade butter. My folks usually had a small garden and of course, we always had eggs. In the summertime, my father knew where to find the wild blackberries and gooseberries.
By today's standards, this certainly isn't a diet that doctors will recommend. But when a person is raised on good food like this, those cravings just won't go away.
