Shared Recipe Braised Carrots With Dried Plums (Prunes)
"I was looking for a new way to make carrots one night and came across a page from a magazine I had cut out years ago with this recipe. My son loved it! The dried plums -- prunes :) -- and orange juice gave a nice sweetness to this side dish. It's also fast and easy to make, which is a bonus on busy nights."

Reviewed Impossible Coconut Pie
"This is a delicious pie! It firmed up nicely and made its own crust on the bottom. I tried putting a little coconut on top before baking and it looked good, but was too crunchy for me after baking. I didn't like it with the creamy texture of the rest of the pie, so next time I'll skip that. This is one great-tasting pie, KelBel!"

Our family moved to Florida from New York in the 90's, so I've brought not only many of the recipes my family has passed down, but have learned to cook some great Southern dishes as well. When I found RZ, it opened up a whole new world of cooking -- cuisine from different countries, tried-and-true family hand-me-down recipes, and some interesting and delicious dishes I would never have found on my own.
My son, Michael, has grown up eating all kinds of food -- classic comforting dishes, what he calls "fancy" food and also what he has named "weird" food that none of his friends eat.
Michael is 16 now, and he makes me smile when he occasionally critiques the food, describing how it tastes and why he likes or dislikes a particular ingredient. I tend to do that when I try a dish I've never made before, so I guess he's picked it up. Michael still loves his favorites, though -- a good bowl of mac & cheese, a gooey brownie, and he is overjoyed when I take him out to McDonald's, a rare treat. For junk food, I usually like pizza or chicken wings. There are a LOT of good chicken wing recipes here ---- yumm!
My favorite foods are bacon, steak (especially a delicious marinated and grilled skirt steak), seafood, and anything hot and spicy. I've also made some vegetarian dinners -- they are a healthy alternative to all the "meat and potatoes" dishes I grew up with. I've found lots of recipes with grains, tofu, etc. here and we've come to really enjoy them, so I try to incorporate a few into our weekly meals.

"This meatloaf has ground meat from two cuts of beef -- sirloin for its beefy flavor, and chuck for moistness and tender texture. Tip: When shaping meatloaf in the pan, use a light touch. Packing it tightly will make the loaf dense and tough. For even browning and to prevent drippings from pooling on the top of the meatloaf, use your fingers to ..."
