    Favorite Foods

To me, a delicious lobster, fresh from the ocean, steamed perfectly, will taste better when I'm relaxed, in comfy shorts, sitting at a picnic table on a cool, green lawn, overlooking a crystal clear lake while enjoying a chilled Prosecco than if I were at some stuffy, hoity-toity restaurant. So when I talk about my favorite foods I also have to describe where best to have them!

My favorite foods = My favorite things:

Ooey-gooey stinky French cheese spread over crusty bread for breakfast with my friends Suzy and Jane at Suzy's family's condo in Destin; steamed lobster at Able's Lobster Pound in NorthEast Harbor, Maine; French onion soup with loads of melted gruyere on a cold, winter day in Chicago at Bistro 110; hot sourdough bread with un-salted butter in any San Francisco restaurant; freshly picked crabmeat, dock-side, on the bayou in Louisiana; boiled crawfish with all the fixins in my own backyard; roasted artichokes with garlic butter at my friend Lori's house; fresh figs and proscuitto served on our floating dock in our pond as we sip a chilled Sonoma-Cutrer and watch the sun set; seared Foie gras with caramelized apples served over a thin slice of toasted brioche at my brother's house in Austin; Really Good cheeseburgers Ed grilled on the BGE at home; House smoked salmon on buttered croissants, served club level at the Windsor Court Hotel for breakfast; my homemade spice cake with cream cheese frosting; Beluga caviar on a mother of pearl spoon followed by a sip of Veuve Clicquot (yellow label), the best was at my 40th birthday bash my husband threw for me with just good friends, at home; the crispy skin on the breast of the Thanksgiving turkey; salty pommes frittes with juicy bites of grilled steak served fireside, in our den at home while watching the Saints win; sticky toffee pudding in Australia; gumbo ya-ya at Mr. B's; Shelley Rote's Trout almondine she and her daughter, Hannah, cooked at our house one summer night; Julia Child's creamed spinach I make for steak night dinners at home for friends; Salade Caprese after I've picked the basil and tomatoes from my garden; truffled fettucini alfredo at Damarco's in Houston; sweetbreads sauteed in brown butter on a crisp Fall evening at home; popcorn at the movies; Kosher hot dogs with mustard and relish at baseball games; Barracuda barbecued on the beach in Caye Ambergris, Belize over coconut shells served with fresh tortillas and homemade pico de gallo; crispy bacon in the morning after the tantalizing aroma permeates through the house, drawing me to the kitchen! Ice cold watermelon on a hot, summer day in Mississippi; Key Lime pie in Grayton Beach with 10 of my college friends; and more to come.
