    I'm a fiction writer* who's always on the lookout for new ways to avoid writing fiction. I may well have discovered the Holy Grail of procrastination: cooking, and then blogging about it. (Do visit the blog.)

    My focus is on vintage recipes ? anything from antiquity to last year is fair game, though I'm particularly interested in the cookery of colonial America and in the kitsch cuisine of the '50s and '60s.

    * My stories are mostly in sf magazines you have surely never heard of, even if you like sf.

    Favorite Foods

    In rough descending order of preference:

    1. Good mushroom pizza (especially from Cassano's).
    2. My mother's borscht. No egg.
    3. Cheddar and horseradish sandwiches.
    4. (Almost) anything spicy.
    5. Cheesy tuna casserole.
    6. Jell-O.
    7. Buttered toast.
