Florida
I decided to re-do my "about me" page. The
first one has been up since I joined in 2005. The other page was kind of long and strung out, so I decided to condense. I am originally from New Orleans and have also lived in Florida for many years. We recently moved back to the panhandle of FL after living for many years in Jacksonville. It is great to be back over here where the pace is slower and the people are nicer! I come from a long line of good cooks, and learned a lot from them, and I love to cook. Although I am not much of a baker, other than a decent pound cake or key lime pie. We like spicy food, but not so hot that you can't taste what the dish is really about.
At this moment I am not working, but I am the caregiver for my elderly Mom. It has been nice to have the time to really cook and enjoy it, not just be trying to get something on the table. I have had time to garden and other things I just didn't really have time for when I worked. I may never go back to work :
I enjoy going to antique stores, thrift stores, estate sales and auctions. I collect a lot of different things so I am always looking for that "special" thing.
I love all animals and I feed the birds, squirels, bunnies and just about anything else that comes along.
I have 3 dogs, all rescues, and one big black cat who wandered up and decided he liked living with us and stayed Editing to add that I am down to 2 dogs now, sadly my Boomer left for the Rainbow Bridge on 6/22/09. RIP old friend I will always miss you. Editing again, My dog Sandy-Man left for the Rainbow Bridge on 6/15/10, he and Boomer are once again together. RIP little buddy, I will always miss you.
I am also back in Jacksonville for about another year, am working here until I finish my degree, and then will return to the panhandle area and start on a new career. It's hard to be away from Mom, but we have a lot of family and friends who are pitching in to help out.
2012 Update. I lost my sweet Mom in 2011, got divorced after 16 years prior to that. Presently I am living with a great guy who makes me happy and laugh every day. It was hard but I put my life back together & finally it seems like everything is back on track. Hope to have time to spend here again, and get back to joining some contests and photographing my food again,
I like most anything except a raw radish. I love seafood, a good steak on the grill and all of the typical comfort foods. I also love fresh veggies, fru-fru salads, and good bread. I like to try new things when eating out, but also like to frequent "familiar" places. I try to eat at local establishments as opposed to the big chain places or fast food. I don't really have a "favorite" restaurant, but have favorites depending on what I am in the mood for.
I love to cook for family and friends, and some of their favorites are, Shrimp Creole, Country Fried Steak with Brown Onion Gravy and a bunch of good veggies. I love to have family and friends over to eat and have a good time.
