I am a 30-year-old recent grad-school grad who basically flipped a coin between getting a Masters in English or going to cooking school. Now that I've completed my MA, I am back in culinary action.
Since reading and cooking are my passions, it should come as no surprise that I love reading, writing, and collecting recipes. Someday I'd even like to be able to publish my own cookbook (or maybe two, since I'm not sure how to integrate my family's traditional Italian recipes and my ingredient-intolerant-health-nuttiness!) In the meantime though, I'll just keep fine-tuning my cooking and writing skills by playing with different foods and flavors and blogging about my culinary adventures.
I generally stick to cooking and eating healthy, vegetarian meals made from whole foods. However, I am by no means only a healthy-vegetarian-food cook. I like to challenge myself, andam known among my friends as a non-vegan who bakes amazing vegan treats and a vegetarian who cooks tasty things with meat. (Bonus Points: I can also cook gluten-free and gluten-ey food!).
While I do not limit myself to any one particular style of cooking or cuisine, though I do prefer working with quality ingredients, lots of produce and whole grains. I love experimenting with new ingredients, recipes, and flavor combinations. I did grew up with an Italian mother in an Italian neighborhood though, so my comfort-foods default setting tends to be Italian or Italian-style foods. I also really like making Indian food, American comfort food (but healthy!), and baked goods. Basically, I just really like to cook.
