I'm an RN, currently on leave since my 23-year old son passed away last year.
I love to cook, hate to bake, like to can when I can obtain large amounts of things.
I have always thought of myself as a fair homestyle cook, nothing fancy or "new age". I lived in LA for 5 years and picked up some pretty good recipes for Mexican food, which my family here in Boston love when we have a Mexican Feast. When my second son was born, I did work for a caterer for a year, cooking for the (then) governor of MA political events, and one time for a party given by Frank Purdue at the Boston Aquarium!
I guess I'd have to say that I'm probably famous (among those who KNOW of me) for my "Ma's Minestrone"
I have MANY interests and hobbies! I seem to "rotate" through them regularly, start getting a craving to do something again if it's been a while. I knit, do counted cross-stitch, crewel, embroidery, needlepoint, scrapbooking, beading, quilting. I also do genealogy - have been working on my family tree for 35 years! 15 generations on several lines and a research trip to Scotland are my crowning achievements! I own an old house, so have learned alot about do-it-yourself remodeling. My assortment of powertools is mind-boggling.(and I know how to use them all!) I refinish orphaned furniture from yard sales and thrift stores and have caned many a chair seat! I also do alot of reading, almost always novels - medical thrillers, mysteries, and my favorite: historical novels. Love Stephen King.
I love anything "savory"
Much prefer filling, satisfying comfort-type foods.
If I had to choose ONE food to have as the only thing to eat on a deserted island, it would be PIZZA! Philly Cheesesteak or cheeseburger, to be specific!
I will usually pass on dessert, except if it's ice cream!
FYI, any recipes I post will have been made by me at some point in time. I see no point in posting something I haven't determined to be 5 stars in my book! My pet peeve, here on 'Zaar, is seeing a recipe posted without having been made by the poster! I've even seen recipes that the poster later amended saying "I finally tried this, it's horrible, but I can't delete it!"

"I try to keep my pantry well-stocked with canned and jarred goods. Although this soup is one of my favorites (bar none), the beauty of it is that it can be made with ONLY goods from my pantry shelf! If I have 1 pound of ground beef, I prefer that, but 2 cans of white chicken meat works just as well. If I have a fresh onion I use that, but if I don'..."
