I retired 4 years ago when we moved to our present location. I have a large vegetable garden and enjoy being outside. We live in a rural setting of 8 acres and our home overlooks the beautiful Miramichi River. Deer, bears, fox and lots of birds visit regularly. This is the best place to live with wonderful friends living nearby.
Also, I enjoy cooking and reading, some crochet, knitting and sewing, although I am not very adept at the last three. I have been learning Tai Chi for 3 years now and I mentor a little girl at a nearby school as well as volunteering for our local Hospice.
We try to eat as healthy as possible and eat very little meat or prepackaged foods. I make my own yogurt, almond milk, breads and try to cook mostly from scratch. We also collect and boil down our own maple sap. We have a large plum grove and we share the bounty with friends.
I suppose that I am known for my baking in which I use little sugars and fats.
I think what I enjoy making most is soups. I usually don't follow a recipe but there are a few soup recipes on food.com that I do follow because they are so good.
You know, thinking about it, I'm not sure that I really ENJOY cooking but I like to eat good healthy cooking so I guess that's why I cook. And I don't consider myself a good cook, just one who cooks healthy.
We rarely eat out but there are a few good restaurants in town where we can get healthy food on those few occasions when we treat ourselves.
Pizza! Bread and fruit. I love pizza because you can put anything you want on it. Usually, I make my own.
