Reviewed French Chicken Thighs in Cilantro Sauce
"This was excellent! I was going to make some quinoa to set the chicken and sauce on, and then decided to just go ahead and cook it with the chicken during the ;boil for 15 minutes; step. (I added a little extra liquid for the quinoa.) I served it with mango salsa. Definitely going to make it again :-)"

Reviewed Orange and Almond Cake (Gluten Free)
"I made this in a 10" round cake pan, and added a 1/2 tsp baking soda and a few splashes of mild vinegar to help it rise - it rose to the perfect size for my pan, and reminded me of a sponge cake. Absolutely delicious - thanks for sharing!"

Reviewed Berbere (Ethiopian Hot Pepper Seasoning)
"This had a great flavor! I didn't notice the huge amount of chili pepper called for so used chili powder for half since I happened to have a large vat of it on hand. I ended up with a small peanut butter jar full of berbere. My friends who have eaten doro wat in Ethiopia said the flavor was right :-) Thanks for sharing!"

Reviewed Never Fail Pie Crust
"I have made this my regular pie crust recipe, using softened butter instead of crisco since I developed an allergy to soybean oil. It needs a little extra water when you use butter, but always turns out delicious and easy to work with. :-)"

I am a homechool mom to one elementary aged son. We do school all year round, 4 days a week with random week long vacations rather than one big summer break.
I love to read, although I don't have the time to read as often as I'd like. I like sci-fi, mysteries, some classics, adventure, old books, and children's fiction. I also like to watch some sci-fi and mysteries, and old movies - like Doctor Who, Sherlock, Columbo, Arsenic and Old Lace, etc.
I love making things, and trying new things. I do all sorts of crafts, and DIY projects. We moved into a fixer upper house in 2012 so I have lots of oppourtunity to try new DIY projects :-) I try to post some of the random craftines on my blog every few weeks: http://www.randomcreativity.wordpress.com
My username used to be Japan Bound. I picked it way too late one night, and six years later realized that I could change it into something that makes more sense. Go figure.
I like almost anything with sugar and butter, or with yogurt... I love to try new things, and my husband and son both love to eat just about anything, which works out nicely. We all look forward to the ZWT every year, since we get to try all sorts of new things. (Although I do randomly look up new foods to try when I get bored with 'normal' food.) My extended family thinks we eat weird things :-)
In 2009 I figured out that MSG and other free glutatmates disagree with me, so I have been trying to cut them out of my diet. Not too fun, since tomatoes, mushrooms, and parmesean cheese are amoung my favorites!

"Super crisp crust topped with ham and a mustard spread... Makes a nice light lunch. One batch makes two 15" squares, which will each serve 2-3 people as a meal, or each square can be cut into 30 appetizer servings."
