I've been married since April 16, 2011 to my very wonderful husband Bill. We knew from our first date that the other was it. Our first date was June 30, 2010 and we got married nine and a half months later. He was it. I was it. The rest is history.
I love cooking. It's something I do with passion and abandon. Unfortunately there's just two of us, but I almost always make enough to feed a family of four or more.
I love cooking "international" foods. Living in America I'm not sure why we still call it that, because we're an international country. I love the spiciness of Middle Eastern, Indian, Asian, and African food. Being a huge Julia Child fan I also enjoy French food and the variety that comes with it.
Recently I've started making more and more of my own food. I've found I'm quite good at baking bread, despite having to be very accurate with measurements. I want to try my hand at pasta next.
I am a huge fan of "Master Chef" and my dream is to be on that show. I don't think I would do very good on it, because for the most part I'm all about simple cooking.
My dream is to travel the world. Most of the countries I want to visit are very exotic and have a long history. Unfortunately until we win the lottery, this isn't going to happen. And playing the lottery would greatly increase our chances, but not by much.
I would also like to open a restaurant in my itty bitty culturally stifled town. In a town of just under 1000 we have four churches, two bars, a grocery store...And no restaurant. Although our grocery store is very small, I sometimes find things here that I can't find elsewhere.
I'm not sure where my passion for cooking came from. I was raised on traditional Midwest food...mostly meat and potatoes. I went shopping with my mom and sister once and they made fun of the fish I had. They stick to the same dishes weekly.
I make a weekly menu and am pretty good about keeping the price of groceries down because of this. My usual bill is between $30 and $50 a week. I could do better, but I find that I always run out of my staples.
I'm a somewhat picky foodie. As hard as I try I just can't make myself like olives and mushrooms. I'll try anything once...Well, except organ meats. Although I'm sure if I didn't know what I was eating, I'd probably try it.
My favorite quote comes from the Dave Matthew Band song "Tripping Billies." I know it's also biblical, but since I'm a deist I'm taking it from the song..."Eat, drink, and be merry/For tomorrow we die."
My favorite dish to cook and eat is what I'm cooking at the moment. I don't know if I have an overall favorite.
I'm famous for three things...Gambas al ajillo, keema, and a 100 pound birthday cake.
