    Reviewed Korean Bean Sprouts

"Good recipe but my family found the raw garlic and onion a bit too strong. Next time, I'd cook them slightly before adding the sprouts back to the pot. Would also take other posters' suggestions and add a bit of soy sauce.

Unless you're planning to eat a huge portion or not offer lots of sides, this recipe easily serves 3-4 people."

Reviewed The Best Rosemary Focaccia Bread

"Great basic bread recipe, although I adjusted the measurements. Had to add another 1/2 cup of water to the dough, and cut the olive oil back to 2 tablespoons. I put half the rosemary in the dough and the other half on top. Next time, I would probably increase the amount of herbs inside the bread to give it more flavour. Still, a great recipe, very ..."

    Reviewed Heather's Stir-Fry Sauce

"A good basic recipe, with ingredients that are readily available. I used beef stock instead of water and rice vinegar, but still found the taste a little bland (although my family liked it). Next time I would add some garlic and maybe a little more soy sauce."

Reviewed Mashed Rutabaga With Carrots and Orange

"Great recipe, very easy to adapt to your own tastes. I added an extra pinch of nutmeg, some cinnamon, and a couple tablespoons of applesauce to give it more depth (and mask the rutabaga taste from picky eaters!). I also added a light breadcrumb topping for more texture, and baked it off in the oven while I prepared the rest of the meal. Added the f..."

    Reviewed Southern Buttermilk Biscuits

"This recipe is easy to make and fresh-baked biscuits are a real treat. I was afraid of over-handling the dough and didn't fold enough, so the biscuits were not as flaky as they could have been. Still recommended though!"

    Reviewed Buttermilk Bran Muffins

"Great basic bran muffin recipe, really easy to make. I did not add anything to the muffins, but next time would consider adding fruit or nuts. Fantastic recipe for using up a litre of buttermilk!"

    Reviewed Prune Chocolate Chip Cookies

"A fantastic twist on a classic recipe, very easy to make and delicious."

Reviewed Black Bean Chili With Butternut Squash and Swiss Chard

"Delicious! Did half black beans, half lentils and substituted a package of frozen spinach for the swiss chard. This is a perfect combination of spices, makes the entire house smell amazing. Will make this again!"

    About Me

I love using fresh, local Canadian ingredients in my cooking but am also highly inspired by Asian flavours. However my real love is baking! I enjoy learning all the techniques involved in baking from scratch, no matter how time-consuming it may be. I'm also especially fond of vintage cookbooks and learning food history.
