We live in a suburb of Dallas, my husband and our "furry 4 legged" child are all here. We are so very lucky (blessed) to have wonderful family and fabulous friends and neighbors!
I'm considered a good "home cook" . I took French Cooking lessons and spent a lot of $$$ for them in Manhattan when I was quite young. The lessons were good to learn about the basics; what comprises a sauce, why roast the bones to make stock, what is a beurre blanc, how to cook fish, etc.
I always enjoy cooking and entertaining at home... A few years after the French Cooking lessons; I met and eventually married a French Executive Chef! Who knew???
30 years later, I have learned a great deal about food and its preparation from my husband who is a kind, gentle and patient teacher. He, like all chefs, work many, many hours... and when he is at home, he's still my own darling live-in French Chef. I sometimes cook for him, so he gets a break from a kitchen, but he cooks for me too!
We eat simply, at home, whenever we dine together (Chef's work long grueling hours), my husband's 1st love is cooking, so he is a busy "working chef" vs. a kitchen manager or a management chef. He can most always be found working alongside his staff, working on menu's for the restaurant or banquets or making his market list so they have food to prepare!
I don't work any longer due to a health issue, but made my career in sales / marketing in the Hospitality industry.
We belong to a "fine dining" group; 5 couples, get together every other month at our homes for a nice dinner not exactly a gourmet meal considering all the levels of skill. Only difference is... All the men cook - they love it and were all cooking at home anyway! All the women sip wine, nosh on canapes and chat until we are called to the table! Great fun; doing it for about 8-9 years now, each host provides the entree meat; others bring canapes, soup or salad, veggie's and starch, and dessert. Lots of fun!!!
Oh my gosh, too many to name; especially found of good fin and shell fish cooked properly (medium, after all it already died when taken out of water, no need to kill it again in a pan or grill); love poultry, duck, lamb, and a little beef too.
Wild about pasta! I usually cook at home most meals, and I am fond of preparing fish and pasta - both quick and easy.
Eat soup and salads all the time, and would (and have) driven 20 miles for a really good French Baguette for my husband (and me).
Big fruit and veggie lover; buy and cook a zillion veggies.
Adore sushi as well as most "Asian" foods from all the Asian country's. Love Italian food if prepared properly and I'm originally from NYC - those people know real Italian! Living in TX for many years now, and food quality and restaurants have improved tremendously in the past 20 years+/-. I am fond of a white chicken chili recipe I make, and most known for cooking for everyone when they need a hand, are sick, could use a good home cooked meal, etc. I buy, cook and deliver too! My circle of friends have reciprocated.
Only thing I'm not big on is desserts; my idea of dessert is fruit of some kind, not really a chocolate person, nor too many sweets... And still I'm a small horse!
