    About Me

    I married my high school sweetheart 40 yrs ago and together we raised 4 boys - I have endeavored to be the virtuous woman that God intended ever since. My pure joy is in caring for my husband, children and now grandchildren; feeding them delicious, nutritious meals, and swapping recipes with friends who love cooking for their families too.

    I was a professional photographer for over 30 years to help supplement our family income and now use that training to document all the events at our church every year as the church historian. I’m also in charge of our church’s kitchen where we prepare meals for the needy, funerals, weddings, potluck suppers every months and many other special events. One annual event is a bake sale for our youth where we sale pies by the piece to over 6000 people; offering at least 8 different varieties of pies. We also make about a hundred pounds of fudge and caramels for this even, and hundreds of cookies and brownies. We cook, bake, and freeze these goodies several times a week for six month ahead of time in anticipation of the sale. There is rarely a morsel left at the end the sale and we’ve been doing this for 25 years.

    My pet peeve has to be people who “rate” recipes online before they try them, OR give a low rating when they change the recipe and it fails. I feel like you rate the recipe only after making it AS-INSTRUCTED the first time, then if you feel like it was worth making additions or changes, make those and share them, but do NOT rate based on your changes.

    My husband says a clean kitchen to me is like a blank canvas to an artist, I must create! I suppose it’s somewhat true because although I love a spotless kitchen, I can’t seem to keep it that way for long before I’m back cooking or baking some new recipe and messing it up again. My favorite thing to do is mop myself out of the kitchen with a hot cup of coffee and then as the floor dries I relax with a great cookbook and read recipes in anticipation of my next creation.

    For the past 40 years I’ve cooked three meals a day for at least 6 people with very few exceptions – I figure that’s somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 meals – and yet I still enjoy cooking and baking as much as ever. Crazy huh!

    Favorite Foods

    Usually my favorite dish is whatever I'm cooking or baking at the time, but I guess if I had to choose just one favorite it would be Italian food - or perhaps anything with potatoes in it!  I love to bake and pastries are right up there with my favorites as well.  Okay, it’s true – there isn’t much I don’t love to cook, bake or eat and it certainly shows! Wink
