    About Me

Since I've been a Zaar member for a lot of years, I decided it's time to update my about me. These days I'm the director of a drug treatment program in Quakertown, PA, though I'm a counselor at heart.

For the past 18 months or so I've been doing low-carb, and even though I miss my grains and beans, I find this works a lot better for me in several ways. I'm less hungy, my blood sugar is stable and I lost a few pounds very easily. I don't miss the breads, but do occasionally miss the sweets and fruit.

My family (DH of 35 years and 3 grown sons who have not left the nest) don't seem to have too much trouble eating low-carb with me, though they all supplement their diets with junk like pizza, candy, and sometimes fast food.

I still love cooking and my work hours are conducive to having time for nice dinners. I'm home most days by 2:30 pm.

    Favorite Foods

Not sure if this counts as "favorite foods," but what I look for in a recipe are simplicity and foods as close to their natural state as possible. I rarely use recipes that call for canned "cream of..." soups. YUCK! My family rates my lasagna as a favorite dish, and they gobble up my shepherd's pie, too. But their taste in food is plebian and they'd just as soon order a pizza, so I'm not sure their opinion counts. I love to experiment with ethnic foods of all kinds.
