I am a single female, 43, no children (that aren't furry footed), and I live in WA State with my adorable baby girl, Punkin (a Shih -Tzu, who's in my profile pic), who's the best doggie I've ever seen, or had, and I've had 13 through my life so far! (Seriously, she's amazing and my *world*. I just recently found out she has a mass in her tummy, but it's not attached to any organs and hasn't spread yet. She will be okay if she has surgery to remove it, but the surgery is expensive and I don't have the money for it yet. (I don't qualify for CareCredit or a credit card because I am on Disability and don't make enough a month.) So right now I'm devoting my time in trying to raise enough money for her to be able to have her operation. :*( But I thank God she's not suffering at all, and that means the world to me. So if you could just send a prayer her way, it would be SO appreciated! :) I also have another puppy, Koda (a Paperanian), who's joined Punkin & I's little family 5 months ago (April/2013) that my sister got from her friend for me (because she didn't want me to be alone in case we can't raise the money for Punkin's operation and she passes). He's an *amazingly* good puppy (so smart & behaves so easily!), and another Blessing to me. :)
I've been a home cook ever since I was a teenager, and am an avid baker. I love to try new recipes, and have about 100 hardcover cookbooks I've been collecting the last 20 years. I'm mostly bake, and enjoy doing that type of cooking the most. The best recipes I've tried that never let me down are from Better Homes & Gardens, Southern Living, Cooks Illustrated, and the Food Network. I'm not too much of a fan of Taste of Home anymore as I honestly don't believe they actually *make* and test all of the recipes they publish anymore. (I subscribed when they first started their company YEARS ago, when it was about the subscribers and really good recipes. Now I feel they're more about the $, and am tired of wasting ingredients on bad recipes that I try and then later *correct* in an upcoming issue after members write and complain that the amounts were off. And WAY too many of their reviews are This looks good! Will have to try it!, I haven't made this yet, BUT..., I haven't made this, but I'm only giving it two stars because it's too unhealthy!, OR they completely REDO the recipe with their ingredients, and rate it low because it didn't turn out!! C'MON, people! Make it, *as written first*, THEN review it! Argh!! NEways... lol) I love this site, though, and how everyone is so willing to take the time to leave good, helpful reviews on the recipes they've tried, and offer suggestions on what would go with it that they've also tried here on the site. Thank you guys for putting in that effort so the rest of us will be able to use your experience to make ours just as successful! :) Ina, Alton, Paula Deen, Bobby Flay, and Tyler Florence are my favorite chefs. But there are so many others, and other great home cooks, that I'm finding new and wonderful recipes every time I come! Thank you guys for sharing your tried and true best recipes with us! :) :) :)
