    My Journal

I have no recent activity to share.

    About Me

I am a home cook and enjoy what I do, cooking for my family and myself and trying to keep it healthy with diabeties in mind (myself and DM).

I care for my DM (85 with dementia) and my DS (26 with autism and intellectual impairment) and the love of my life my DH (married since 1981 and lived together for 3 years prior to that) and there is our 24 year old DD who has now left home to live independantly (who we are very proud of as she makes her own way in this world).

The picture posted is of myself and JustJanS taken on a houseboat holiday in Mandurah Western Australia (at the moment replaced with the Tigger Puss also known as craybait, queen of sheba, that tart and the imperial princess to name a few depending on her mood, she is 16 years old). Jan was the first ZAAR member I met along with her lovely DH and we have now also had the pleasure of having lunch with Joy (Joyful Cook) from Wales and her DH, Terese from Perth, Dan (DaniBoy) - [Jan's son] and his partner Verity and their beautiful baby son Kobi when we all had a great lunch together with good food, wine, conversation and the best feelings of friendship.

My thanks to ZAAR for giving me the honour of being Chef of the Day on Friday 6th November 2009.

From all the banners posted I think you can relate that I am an avid fan of the tag games - I feel that they commit me to making the dish and then I am serving healthy meals instead of resorting to oh what it - well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it and oh and it gives me the chance to try new dishes especially when the DH is on night shift and I can use ingredients that don't agree with him (intolerance factors).

    Favorite Foods

Just about anything edible. Though have a dislike for anything overly salty which includes roll mops (pickled herring), olives and pickled onions (a left over from having to peel heaps (I'm talking sacks of the buggers) for dad to pickle. Willing to give most things a try at least (prefer not to know what it is till I eat and pass judgement - then I am not prejudicial in assessment). After all how can you say it tastes good or not unless you have tasted it and that said sometimes give it another go for the first time it may not of been quite to your tastes or it may have not been cooked quite to your liking the first time so give it another go but depending if you have made it yourself or eaten out - if you made yourself try a different recipe or if eating out try another establishment but give a go at least 3 times either way before you give final judement. I don't have hard and fast rules in rating a recipes - when I send off something to the DS's music recreation group I ask them to assess on the following

    5 stars Outstanding
    4 stars Loved It
    3 stars Liked it
    2 stars o'kay
    1 star didn't like it

and then I take into consideration how it went from the cooking side along with their assessment (and they can be hard taskmasters and tend to see things as like it or don't most of the time). When it is for the family then there is more discussion (especially between the DH and I and if the DD is present {she lives away from home - there is usually eye rolls} - we are eating a meal is her response not disecting it), so the rating will be on those responses and how the cooking process went and if any changes had to be made but if for dietary purposes I don't mark against a recipe. There are times I will leave only comments especially if I believed I really fouled up (more so when I have tagged a recipe).
