New Topic Porticia in Recipe Requests - General

"I used to have a recipe for this Italian dessert bread called "porticia". It was wonderful with cinnamon and nuts and many layers like a cinnamon loaf but very thin layers and not so much sugar. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks

New Topic Steamed Corn Tamales in Cooking Q & A

We now live in SC and we don't have but a couple of Cuban restaurants and it is like a 60 mi trip to get to a good one. I have been searching for a recipe that basically is for a corn tamale. But everything has meat in it and usually a recipe for a 100. There is just..."

    About Me

Love to cook, and have a new passion for canning.  Have put up apple butter, strawberry fig preserves, tomatoes, applesauce, raspberry fig preserves, peach preserves and getting ready to try pineapple preserves.  I am diabetic so I don't get to enjoy these sweet productions, but have great pleasure in giving them away to anyone who expresses an interest in getting them, and gifts to friends and family.  I love to cook, but my husband says that I can just walk thru the kitchen and make a mess.  Am trying to work on that.

    Favorite Foods

I love cooking to please my husband.  He is Ukranian and I am working on preparing authentic food for him.  My other love is Cuban food.  I love making "masa de pureco" (fried pork chunks served with sauted onions and fresh lime) black beans and rice and flan.

I would say that my flan is one of my signature dishes.  Anyone who has tried it love it.

My favorite restaurant - hard to pick, but do love Carlos' Cafe in Rock Hill, SC.  A quait little Cuban restaurant, good authenic food, good prices, great friendly service.
