    About Me

I'm a non-cooking, old married man. My wife's the cook, but she insisted I open my own page on Recipezaar! This way I can at least see where she gets some of her recipes from.

Your site is fascinating. I might not contribute much, but I'll sort of "walk around" now and then to see what's cooking.

Maybe, in time, I might even try an easy recipe from Zaar, who knows? In the meantime, I'll lurk!

PS: At last I have started making easy recipes! I'll never be a great cook, but I must say the idea of actually being one, attracts me!

    Favorite Foods

I grew up in Johannesburg. My late parents were quite well off but my tastes are simple. I like "boerekos" -- old-style farm foods. I love the plain thick mealie porridge called "putu", which I learned to eat as a child with black friends. With putu you eat a simple gravy-rich meat stew with vegetables. (Very plain, very comforting).

During my working years I ate in excellent restaurants overseas, and I found it all very interesting as I am a fairly adventurous eater and I'm willing to try anything. But I'm always pleased to get back to the foods of my childhood.

That said, I confess I love oysters: fresh, on cracked ice, with a dry white wine.

In the box to the right I am asked "What dish are you famous for?" Oh ... putu porridge. I can fry bacon and eggs, make toast, and am better at instant coffee than filter coffee. And I know how to open tins.

Fortunately for me I married a girl who in time became an excellent cook, or I'd have had scurvy years ago. So, yes, my tastes are simple but my palate is well-developed! I LOVE good, tasty food!
