    About Me

    I'm currently completing my Master's in Social Anthropology and looking forward to my PhD. I'm interested in how people understand the environment and their relationships to other organisms, especially as these issues relate to food. I'm currently researching families that use indoor 'vermicomposting' (worm composting) systems to dispose of their kitchen scraps - it's fascinating stuff!

    I'm a pescetarian, but most of my meals are vegetarian. I try to make environmentally sustainable and socially conscious food choices, and I love the many pleasures of eating locally and seasonally. I've developed a patient palate for those long winter months, and I'm lucky to live within walking distance of a beautiful year-round farmer's market.

    I discovered in 2008 that I have Celiac Disease, so I no longer eat wheat, rye, or barley. I can't say that I haven't missed sandwiches, beer, and cinnamon buns, but my life is too delicious to complain about! 

    Favorite Foods

    I love spicy foods, foods with interesting textures, and foods that leave my fingers messy. My favourite cuisines are Vietnamese, Japanese, Indian, Ethiopian and Middle Eastern. 

    I LOVE fermented foods. Tea, wine, chocolate, coffee, miso, fish sauce, and pickles of all kind! Mmmm.... 

    Some of my favourite dishes are fresh spring rolls, pad thai,  sushi, seaweed salad, kimchi, dal, bhaji, coriander chutney, aleecha, felafel, socca, oatmeal, and rice pudding.

    I'm a total fiend for soup, tea, and nachos!
