Illinois
"Cranberries, gin, lime - a classic! We had a strangely warm day for January in Illinois and this was the way to celebrate it."

"Who was it that said that eternity is two people and a ham? I've made great inroads on that New year's ham, but still had some left and came across this recipe. I did not use the bacon, sauteed the onions in a bit of butter, did not use the corn (Mr Grumpy is opposed to corn, added additional potatoes, some finely chopped celery and sliced carrot..."

"An interesting soup, not an unqualified success. I like all of the components of this soup, and I think a little tweaking will make the soup more to our liking. The cumin was a bit overpowering, to our taste, and I would definitely reduce the amount. I added a bay leaf to the chicken as it poached, took out the thighs and then added the cumin etc...."

"I'm a bit ambivalent about this - I had hoped to really, really like it. It's ok. I know I would like it better if I sweetened it, but that's a bit counterproductive. The tangerine seemed to add a bit of bitterness to the drink - not bad, and I did drink all of it, but not what I was hoping for. I am wondering if it might not work better if I coul..."

"These were a tasty little morsel - intended for this evening, but I had to sample. I did have a technical problem - my prosciutto was on the dry side and perhaps sliced a shade thick - it really did not want to wrap around. I buy prosciutto at several different markets, and next time will look for a somewhat moister ham sliced more thinly. I would..."

"A very tasty dish. I measured out most of the ingredients in the morning, so that it was quick to put together. I also added some cubed potatoes to lighten up the protein load in this dish, reducing the amount of the chicken. Perhaps a little more spice next time."

"I think the parboiling helps keep the lovely green color for this soup. I probably would add more potato next time, for just a bit more body to the soup, and perhaps add some additional herbs - just a personal preference. Topped with croutons and shredded cheddar, this warmed us up on a cold evening."

"A nice variation of potato salad. I peeled, diced and simmered the sweet potato until it was done, as did not want to use the oven just for this. I had no yogurt, so in the morning I took my kefir grains and dropped them into some heavy cream. By the time I got home, I had a lovely mascarpone-thick cream with a slight tang. I did use rather more r..."

"I had to omit the bacon, because of some health issues, but this soup was just fine without it. I used chicken broth and added a bay leaf, some peppercorns and some thyme to the soup as it was cooking as well - I find that those enhance any vegetable soup. The lemon added a lovely bright note, quite nice."

"Really quite good and fast to make. I had a little kitchen disaster but it still worked out. I made only half the recipe, and put parchment paper in my baking tray because I could not find the foil. But I did not trim it quite enough - not a problem in the oven but a problem in the countertop - yes, putting out flames and hoping the smoke alarm do..."
