I'm a Peace Corps volunteer living in a small village about 20 miles east of Sofia, Bulgaria. I teach English to kids ages 6 to 11 and stumble my way through Bulgarian. I'm always traveling, cookbooks are often my bedtime reading, and if you really want to get me excited, you can send me a care package with some co-op delicacies and the latest copy of any cooking magazine, as long as it's not in Bulgarian.
I love baking, cooking with spices, and finding ways to make health food not taste like lumps of wheat germ. I can spend hours at a time trolling through farmers' markets in my home town, in a new town, or in a new country, finding what's seasonal, what's local, what's new. In Bulgaria, there's not a huge amount of imported produce (at least in comparison to the U.S. or Britain), so it's pretty easy to stick to local, in-season foods - something I am trying to incorporate into my life, as I am more and more uncomfortable with the idea of trucking, for example, pesticide-loaded Chilean grapes all the way up to the northern hemisphere just so we can snack on them in December. All in all, I guess I'm just your basic travel-addicted hippie foodie.
