    About Me

    I'm retired and live just outside a small country town of about 5000 inhabitants including outlying areas.The climate is temperate. Everything is handy and people are friendly and stick together. We are near a lovely river and not far from lakes, beaches and forest.
    I havent cooked anything except really simple food for the last twenty years and want to learn to cook again.
    My favorite cook book is the one used by generations of New Zealanders, The Edmonds Cook Book. It has plain straight-forward recipes for just about everything.

    Favorite Foods

    Oysters, olives, goats cheese, various cheeses, home made bread & scones. I like cookies cakes and biscuits that are not too sweet and prefer to use oil rather than butter.I'd like to learn to make crackers.
    vegetables I like are: spinach or silverbeet, pumpkin/squash, green beans, potatoes,parsnip,carrot,celery,fancy lettuce, parsley,baby beets.
    My favorite herbs are coriander, cumin,ginger,garlic and turmeric.
    I like to use coconut cream to make Indian dishes and also like Chinese or Aisian food.
    Fruits I prefer are peaches,pineapple,banannas,green apples,passionfruit, avacados,plums.
    Dont use eggs butter or sugar very much.
    In our family Im best known for my delicious microwave chocolate cake made with oil and my date topped pastry squares.
    I buy the pastry but would like to go back to making it. I used to make excellent pastry as a young woman
