Reviewed Winter Wassail
"I have put this in my 'Tried & True' book. I made this for the kids for our Christmas Tea since they don't seem to like tea ... yet. I tied the whole spices in cheesecloth for easy removal and put everything except fruit in the crockpot for 2 hours on High. I then added the fruit and turned the crockpot to Low until ready to serve. This was a h..."

Reviewed Drop Scones
"Thanks for sharing! I wanted quick and easy drop-scone recipe for our Christmas Tea. These were perfect! I added dried cranberries for my add-in and baked them in my Lodge cast-iron scone pan. The pan took about 1/4 c. of batter for each scone and I sprinkled them with sugar crystals before baking. This made 14 scones (could easily have been 1..."

I grew up in PA Dutch country and now live in the suburbs of D.C. I am a homemaker and love to play with my kids who are now 9 and 6. My favorite room in the house is the kitchen.
My children used to be explorative eaters... anything went. They are becoming more discriminating ... OK, picky ... so my newest challenge is finding interesting dishes that will meet their tastes. This usually means not admitting to specific ingredients or making them unnoticeable (such as onions). I'm loving the ability to practically pulverize my onions quickly with my food chopper.
I love experimenting with different culinary traditions. When I find the time to play in the kitchen uninterrupted, dinner can be quite an adventure at our house.
My ultimate month off would be to spend a month travelling around the world as a food critic. - send me back to St-Jean-De-Luz in SW France for Chipirones (a fabulous squid dish)along the bay!
My favorite cookbooks are:
Extending the Table by Joetta Handrich Schlabach
The Williamsburg Cookbook
The Burger Meisters by Marcel Desaulniers
The Common Grill Cookbook by Chef Craig Common
America's Best Bread Machine Baking Recipes by Donna Washburn & Heather Butt
and most recently, the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Book (I finally got a countertop ice cream freezer!)
(Update on 03/17/09- hm! Not many changes!)
Aside from mac and cheese, our favorite dishes include Chicken and Broccoli Thai Curry (red or green), Peanut Soup, roasted asparagus, Trini Burgers topped with marinated & grilled portabello mushroom caps and Ultimate Peanut Butter Pie.
My Heros are: Emeril for giving me the inspiration to "kick it up a notch" in my own kitchen and Chef Craig Common of The Common Grill in Ann Arbor, MI. Every recipe I have made from his cookbook has become a legend among my friends and family.
My favorite restaurant at this point is The East Moon Asian Bistro which we are lucky enough to have within walking distance of home. I haven't had anything I didn't like yet. We recently experienced Brazilian BBQ at Fogo de Chao in Baltimore and we look forward to a return visit. I also love Moroccan food so Marrakesh ranks right up there as well. I also love the escape into what is definitely a dining experience... great music ... relaxing ambience ... yes, definitely an escape.
