Reviewed El Torito Chicken Tortilla Soup

"This is a delicious soup recipe with a lots of versitility. At the Pasadena El Torito Restaurant on Foothill Blvd, they have been serving this soup as one of the items at their lunchon buffet. They make up a large pot of the soup with just the basic veggie items, then serve the other items such as shredded chicken, cilantro, mint, etc. as garnish..."

    Reviewed Strawberry Yogurt Muffins

"I've made these twice and they turned out well; the one minor change was to lightly coat the strawberry pieces with flour so they would stay separate; it added a small amount of flour to the recipe. I was surprised at how moist the cupcakes were when first taken out of the oven, but we liked them that way; and by the next day they were no longer ..."

    About Me

I live in a wooded hillside area of Los Angeles where it feels like being out in the country. I grew up in Rhode Island, and came to LA after graduating from URI. I recently retired from my job as an environmental specialist. So now I have time to collect internet recipes. My hobbies & interests are aquatics, shell collecting, my cats, feeding stray cats, home improvement projects and cooking.
I love to travel and, years ago, lived in Mexico for several months. My favorite cookbooks are the ones written by Diana Kennedy; they are all great; and I have them all, some signed by her when I was enrolled in her cooking classes. I have a lot of cookbooks; some of my other fave authors and their books are: Madhur Jaffrey (especially World Vegetarian, World of East Vegetarian Cooking and A Taste of the Far East), Faye Levy, Martha Rose Shulman (especially Mediterranean Light, Provencal Light and Mexican Light) and Paula Wolfert.

    Favorite Foods

My favorite local restaurant is the Paradise Cove Beach Cafe in Malibu. (paradisecovemalibu.com) great food and it's right on the beach. It had been my mom's favorite too. We also go to The Inn of the Seventh Ray located on Old Topanga Road. It's a woodland restaurant where you can have organic food and an outdoor table next to a brook. See "innoftheseventhray.com for some pretty pictures. We frequent the Border Grill in Santa Monica; it features Modern Mexican cuisine. Some other faves are A Votre Sante; Real Food Daily (Vegan) realfood.com; and the Indo Cafe in West LA for Indonesian food. In LA's Little Tokyo there are several restaurants and markets that we go to, the japanese-owned New Otoni Hotel's restaurants now the kyotograndhotel.com; also Ichi Ban and Suehiro's are some of our faves. There are several that I like in Mexico City, such as Delmonicos, The Jacaranda and the "1900's" (Mil Novaciento) a gay ninety's style restaurant, and then there's all those great torta stands. In Tijuana, Reno's Restaurant is my favorite; it was featured in San Diego Magazine as being one of the best restaurants in the San Diego area; it's just over the border. I haven't been there lately because of the drug wars. My favorites in Rhode Island are Camille's Roman Gardens and Al Forno.
My family and I like vegetarian dishes made with seasonal vegetables. DH is on a cardiac rehab diet.
