Born and raised in Texas. Grew up on a farm and ranch riding the plow with my dad, feeding the cows and riding my horse. I started cooking early by popping popcorn or baking cookies on Sunday afternoons and cooking bacon and eggs, burgers and steaks as I got older. My love of cooking increased while being on my own in college. My favorite dish to cook for friends and dates (including my husband) was Shrimp Fettuccini With Butter Sauce (Not Alfredo) (http://www.food.com/recipe/shrimp-fettuccini-with-butter-sauce-not-alfredo-132821). The recipe is here on Food.com. This was my first own recipe.
I've been cooking for 25 years or more. I'm married for 19 years with two teenagers and a toddler. All three are a handful of mischief. Especially the baby!
We really like to barbecue and that means anything done on the grill and doesn't necessarily mean with BBQ sauce. I took over the grilling shortly after we were married because my husband kept burning the chicken. He'd walk off and leave it and you just can't do that with chicken!! I even taught myself to smoke pork and beef ribs on a gas grill and they are yummy. They are usually with a dry rub and sometimes with a mopping sauce. Hardly ever with BBQ sauce. But you can add that later if you like. We'd even like to have our own BBQ restaurant one of these days. A place that's kinda like Joe's Crab Shack meets BBQ but on a smaller scale.
I like to cook and eat and I like pretty much everything. My favorites are lobster tails and crab legs with melted butter for dipping. I also love steak and potatoes as does everyone in my family.
My family's favorite potato dishes: the kids always love french fries but other favorite potatoes are hash browns, baked potatoes with the works, my potato casserole (http://www.food.com/recipe/potato-casserole-132584) and grilled or broiled potatoes with herbs. Sorry, don't know how to add my recipes to share in the correct way.
Only hubby and I like seafood; the kids haven't aquired a taste for it yet. However, our daughter likes fried shrimp sometimes.
I'm not afraid to try new and strange foods. The strangest ones I've had are escargot, crawfish, alligator and rattlesnake. I tried menudo with tripe (cow stomach) once and did not like it! I don't like liver as well. I am a meat-eater, being raised on lots of beef, pork and chicken. I have probably tried most veggies but I don't really have favorites.
I like potatoes, corn, okra (of course being from the south) tomatoes, fresh spinach, mushrooms, (http://www.food.com/recipe/sauteed-spinach-with-mushrooms-181423) green beans, zucchini, squash (http://www.food.com/recipe/zucchini-and-yellow-squash-182946) and asparagus the most.
The only veggie that I can think of that I hate is green peas.
My favorite restaurants where we live are a local Japanese restaurant, a local Mexican restaurant, and we always enjoy Outback, Olive Garden or Red Lobster but can't really afford to eat out much anymore. (Husband lost his job. :( ) My favorite foods are Seafood, Cajun, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, American and BBQ. Sometimes I like Chinese.
